RI Health Department OKs request to close Memorial Hospital birthing center

The Rhode Island Department of Health has officially approved Care New England’s request to close the birthing center at Memorial Hospital and move the services to Kent Hospital and Women & Infants Hospital, the state agency announced late Friday afternoon.

President Obama told Congress not to leave town before passing a Zika funding bill amid new reports that 279 pregnant women from the United States and its territories have shown signs of infection from the Zika virus.

The center will house 50 physicians and 70 staff; setup will foster ‘patient-centered’ experience. Four stories tall and offering close to 70,000 square feet of medical space, the building bearing the University Medicine logo and overlooking Route 114 is one of the largest and most visible development projects in the area.

CMS gives physicians grace period to adjust to ICD-10 codes

CMS announced a one-year ICD-10 implementation grace period, beginning Oct. 1, during which Medicare claims will not be denied or audited based on diagnosis code as long as physicians chose a code from an appropriate ICD-10 code family.
