Clínica Esperanza Is in Need of Volunteer Providers

Clínica Esperanza (Hope Clinic) is in need of volunteer providers!

Clínica Esperanza, a free volunteer-run clinic for the uninsured, is looking for physicians to volunteer to provide medical care. We welcome physicians of any specialty, but have a particular need for providers in primary care and psychiatry. We would ask volunteer providers to commit to volunteering one shift per month (4 hours/month), however this is flexible and there are many other ways to get involved, including at health fairs and other events. Beyond providing medical care, physicians will also have an opportunity to mentor and teach Brown medical students who volunteer at the clinic.

The clinic is located at 60 Valley Street in Providence.

Hours available:
Monday: 12:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m.
Tuesday: 12:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. (Precept for medical students 5-8 p.m.)
Wednesday: 12:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m.
Thursday: 12:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. (Particular need for Thursday’s 5-8 p.m.)
Friday: 12:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m.
Saturday: 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.

Challenges of Pain Management

Chronic pain management is a public health concern with significant increases in the use of opioids for pain relief. There is a corresponding growth in the number of opioids prescribed in the U.S. and the overdose from those drugs.1,2,3 Family physicians and other primary care providers play a vital role in balancing patients’ pain management needs with the risk of drug misuse and abuse.
